Training on Sustainable Agricultural Practices for Youth

EHED Caritas – Trincomalee successfully conducted a Training on Sustainable Agricultural Practices for Youth on March 19, 2025, at Kinniya Panichchankulam Cultural Centre Hall, under the Improving Rural Livelihoods, Enhancing Food Security, and Building Climate Resilience in Sri Lanka project. Two expert facilitators, Mr. M.C. Marzook (AI) and Mr. N.M. Rizwan, (AI) provided valuable insights on organic farming, home gardening, and modern sustainable agricultural techniques. The training included group exercises, video presentations, and hands-on demonstrations, equipping youth with practical skills for farming. A total of 52 young participants (40 males and 12 females) actively engaged in discussions and activities, showing keen interest in home gardening and sustainable farming as a livelihood option. Rev. Fr. Dr. B. Paul Robinson delivered a special address on the role of youth in agriculture and family farming. At the end of the session, each participant received seedlings to kickstart their home gardening journey. The program emphasized long-term sustainability, with future plans including community model farms, hands-on training, and follow-up sessions. This initiative marks a significant step towards empowering youth in agriculture, ensuring food security, and promoting environmental sustainability. 🌱🌍
