Session on Family-Based Mental Health and Well-being

We conducted three sessions on family-based mental health and well-being for selected women from Poompuhar, Sirupitty and Ilupaikulam located in the Trincomalee Town and Gravets Division, on May 27th May, June 3rd and June 5th 2025 respectively. The sessions were facilitated by Dr. M.M. Infas, Psychiatrist at the Psychiatric Health Unit, General Hospital, Trincomalee. During the sessions, he discussed several key topics with the participants, including: An introduction to mental health, the interconnection of mental health with the body, mind, community, and economy, common symptoms of mental health issues such as overthinking, aggression, excessive fear, and self-doubt, behavioral changes in individuals affected by mental health problems, including: Finding faults in others, deliberately making mistakes, negative thinking, unrealistic expectations, living a stressful life, and suicidal tendencies. Dr. Infas also guided the participants on how to seek treatment through counseling services available at the General Hospital, Trincomalee. He shared real-life examples to help participants better understand the importance of mental health and the benefits of early intervention. The participants were actively engaged throughout the sessions, asking questions, sharing their thoughts, and offering suggestions to the facilitator.
